Our eco-responsible commitment

On the basis of the Paris Agreements

Laws and action plans have recently been published to meet the Paris Agreement target of halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

In the higher education and research sectors, the choice of trajectory to achieve this objective is currently left to the players themselves, so that it is consistent with their professional missions. Collective initiatives labos1point5 and the tools it provides to help you on your way...

The CNRS Ethics Committee (COMETS) also considers, in its recently published opinion, that "Taking into account the environmental impact of research must be considered as part of research ethics".. It recommends "Increase the number of discussion forums enabling all research staff to debate the issues and responsibilities of those involved in research and to consider their activity in the light of environmental issues.

From the green unit to the eco-responsibility committee

Created on 1 January 2024 as a continuation of CEREGE's "Green Unit" (2019), the eco-responsibility committee has set itself the goal of reducing the environmental impact of the laboratory's professional activities while maintaining, and even improving, the quality of working life and the quality of scientific production and services.

Towards an eco-responsibility project for research practices

With this in mind, CEREGE's management is working together on an eco-responsibility project for research practices and professional habits to reduce the laboratory's environmental footprint, while maintaining excellent research quality.

How can we profoundly rethink the way we do research?
With what objectives? With what levers? With what priorities?

The participatory approach began in September 2022 with a massive session of "My Earth in 180 minutes involving around a hundred participants. 60% of them then estimated the reduction levers that would inspire feasible measures.

In spring 2023, a questionnaire 70% of participation from Ceregians was used to find out the position and state of mind of staff on transition issues (15 in total): what is or is not expected of the laboratory, commitment and possible concrete actions, etc.

Since then, various events and workshops have been organised for all staff to share ideas on how to co-construct the objectives and the project: Transition 2023 day, "Transition cafés", "experimentation areas" for changing practices, etc.

A space on the CEREGE internal social network (HumHub) is dedicated to information and exchanges concerning the transition.

Voting on a manifesto

In February 2024, CEREGE staff voted to approve :

. The CEREGE eco-responsibility manifesto

. The implementation of a participative process to reduce the environmental impact of our activities by experimenting with changes in practices and co-constructing a charter. 90% of those who voted agreed, with 83% of all staff taking part.

Vote on the 2024 eco-responsibility charter

At the end of 2024, CEREGE staff approved the first CEREGE eco-responsibility charterwhich consists of 10 articles of commitment.

79% from all staff took part to the consultation.

The 10 article proposalsdeveloped through a participatory process, were approved by between 77% and 97% membership.
