Probing the shared history of man and forest in Gabon

Discover the magnificent reportage in 5 episodes from the newspaper Le Monde: "Archaeology: rediscovering Africa" published on 14 September 2024.

Egypt and the origins of early man continue to dominate the scene of archaeological research in Africa, thanks to their power of fascination and the resources mobilised.

But other fields of investigation, which receive less media coverage, are questioning and often shaking up representations of a continent hastily described as "without history".

African scientists have expressed their desire to lead the writing of this story. In the course of five reports, "Le Monde" met the explorers of this revisited past.
