Geosciences Olympiad at CEREGE

On Wednesday 3 April, the winners of the Academic Geoscience Olympiad 2024 were announced and the prizes awarded at the CEREGE Arbois, with the participation of the juries: Françoise Chalié, Research Fellow, CNRS (CEREGE), Isabelle Duhamel-Achin, Regional Director of BRGM (Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières), Loïc Mathon, IA-IPR de SVT (Rectorat), Christine Balme and Claude Monier (members of the Association des Géologues du Sud-Est), Éric Dagna, Lionel Roux and Nathalie Romeuf, life and earth sciences teachers. Above all, there were sixteen teams of candidates from 3 different secondary schools in the region, totalling 40 students.

The geology of my street

Candidates had to design and produce a 3-minute video on the theme of "Geology in my street". A wide variety of productions were put forward, focusing on the Provence earthquake, the earthquake-resistant construction of the Jean Guéhénno secondary school in Lambesc, the Sainte-Victoire dinosaurs, the Rocher des Doms in Avignon and the Alpilles and Costes mountain ranges.

The winners

Congratulations to the two winners, Sarah Benrazek and Juliette Gérard, students from Lycée Frédéric Mistral d'Avignonwho will represent the academy at national level.

Congratulations also to Lisa Bourquardez, Manel Ezzarai and Mahé Gigault (second prize) for a production on the Rocher de Vitrolles and to Antonin Chandelier, Gabriel Colantuono  and Loan Marcelino (3rd prize) for their video on the site effect in Vernègues during the Provence earthquake in 1909.
