Summary : Today, software designed by geologists for geoscientific data management, synchronised field data capture or AI-based advanced prediction of natural phenomena is increasingly available and easy to use. The ®advangeo software suite developed by Beak Consultants GmbH in Germany is an example (Barth et al., 2014). Using expert knowledge and available data, predictive models based on artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms have been integrated into easy-to-use software to create predictive maps based on a "hybrid" approach. This approach has been used for example in the new Burkina Faso mineral plan for gold, nickel, manganese, sulphides (Cu, Zn, Pb, Sb), Fe-Ti-V and bauxite. Applications of AI are diverse and range from resource or geological prediction to environmental applications such as risk mitigation, forest pest monitoring or rainfall-induced soil erosion, to name a few.
