LPM Tools

The extraction protocols for bio-indicators are adapted to the nature of their skeleton (carbonate, siliceous, organic) and the degree of purity required for subsequent analyses.

Once extracted, concentrated and purified, the bioindicators are then analysed by manual optical microscopy or by automated optical microscopy and by electron microscopy. They can also be geochemically analysed by ICP-AES, ICP-MS, IRMS, nanoSIMS, 14C-AMS.

Foraminifera, coccolithophores, radiolarians and diatoms are aquatic bioindicators.

Pollen and phytoliths are terrestrial bioindicators.

Anthropogenic indicators: microplastics

Our expertise in the extraction of microfossils has enabled us to develop extraction protocols, allowing the team's researchers to carry out spatio-temporal monitoring in the waters and sediments of the Bay of Marseille.
